Temporary SST Card for NYC Construction Workers

Posted On: October 10, 2024

How to get Your Temproray SST card

What is Temporary Site Safety Training (SST) Card?

A Temporary Site Safety Training (SST) Card is a short-term SST card for construction and demolition workers who have not yet completed the full 40 hours of Site Safety Training required under New York City’s Local Law 196 of 2017, but have completed at least the OSHA 10 or OSHA 30-hour training.

This card is valid for six months and allows workers to begin working at New York City construction sites while completing the remaining SST 10 or SST 30-hour training, depending on their OSHA card. Workers must complete the full 40-hour SST training within the six-month period in order to obtain the 40-Hour SST card, which is required to continue working.

Who Can Apply for a Temporary SST Card?

Any individual who is ready to start working immediately at a construction site in New York City and has a valid OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 card (not older than five years) can apply for a Temporary SST card. To receive this card, they must enroll in the NYC SST 10 or SST 30-hour course, depending on their OSHA card, and complete it within six months to qualify for the full SST Worker Card.

What Happens If I Do Not Complete the Training Within Six Months?

If the required training is not completed within six months, your Temporary SST card will expire. In this case, you will no longer be eligible to work on construction sites until you complete the required Site Safety Training and get the SST worker card, which remains valid for five years.

Importance of Completing Full Training

Although the temporary card allows workers to start jobs right away, completing the full 40 hours training is important for safety on construction sites. It shows that workers comply with local laws and equips them with the skills needed to work safely in high-risk environments.

How Can I Apply for the Temporary SST Card?

To apply for a Temporary SST Card, visit the NYC SST page and select either the NYC SST 10-Hour or NYC SST 30-Hour Program, depending on your OSHA card. After enrolling, OSHA Training School will require some documents from you, which you will need to email to us so we can process your Temporary SST Card.
