What is the NYC 8-Hour Site Safety Manager Refresher / Chapter 33?
The NYC 8-Hour Site Safety Manager Refresher is a comprehensive review of Chapter 33 of the New York City Building Code. It covers all rules, regulations, and current industry standards required to renew your Site Safety Manager (SSM) License or Site Safety Coordinator (SSC) Certification with the NYC Department of Buildings (DOB).
This is a refresher course only. It is not an initial certification course. You must already hold a valid 40-Hour Site Safety Manager Certification to enroll, or hold a 62-Hour SST card and need to renew it.
Who Should Take This Course?
How Often Do You Need 8-Hour Site Safety Manager Refresher Course?
Site Safety Manager License is renewed every 3 years. This course must be completed within 1 year before the renewal application date.
Site Safety Coordinator Certificate is renewed every year. The 8-hour refresher must be completed annually to maintain DOB certification.
62-Hour SST Card is renewed every 5 years. This training must be completed every 5 years to stay compliant. This 8-hour course can be applied toward the 16-Hour SST Refresher credit requirement.

Submit your DOB renewal application
- Submit your renewal through the DOB NOW: Licensing Portal along with your certificate, photo ID, physical examination form (LIC62, signed by a physician within 90 days), and proof of address if it has change.
We only provide the course. We do not submit the renewal application; this must be completed by you.
Training Requirements
To complete this course, you must:
- Already hold a valid 40-Hour Site Safety Manager Certification or a 62-Hour SST Supervisor Card. This is a refresher course, not an initial certification.
- Attend the full 8-hour in-person session. 100% attendance is mandatory
- Be able to communicate with the instructor in the language in which the class is conducted.
- Complete and submit the end-of-course evaluation form to receive certificate.
