Who Is Required to Take the NYC SST 8-Hour Worker Refresher Training?

According to Local Law 196 of 2017 (NYC Department of Buildings), individuals who have completed the 40 hour SST training within the last 5 years must complete the 8 Hour SST Worker Refresher before the expiration date of their 40 Hour SST card. This requirement makes sure that workers stay updated on safety measures, contributing to a safer job site and maintaining compliance with the local regulations.

What happens if a 40 Hour SST card expires without completing the NYC SST 8 Hour Worker Refresher Training?

If you haven’t completed the NYC SST 8 Hour Worker Refresher Training before your 40 Hour SST card expires, you will need to retake the entire 40 Hour training to renew your SST card.

What Does the NYC SST 8 Hour Worker Refresher Training Cover?

There are two different packages for NYC SST 8 Hour Worker Refresher Training:

Package 1

  • 4 Hour Fall Prevention: Focuses on preventing falls, a leading cause of injuries in the construction industry. Workers will be updated on the latest techniques and best practices to avoiding falls on the job site.
  • 4 Hour Supported Scaffold User and Refresher: Covers the safe use and maintenance of supported scaffolds. Workers will receive updated training on proper procedures for setting up and using scaffolds, which helps to minimize the risk of scaffold-related accidents and injuries.

Package 2

  • 4 Hour Fall Prevention: Offers the same comprehensive training on fall prevention.
  • 2 Hour Tool Box Talks: Highlights the importance of conducting tool box talks, which are brief safety meetings that address specific job hazards.
  • 2 Hour Pre-Task Safety Meeting: Covers planning and discussing tasks to address all safety considerations before work begins.
Can Past Certifications Be Utilized?

Yes, if you have certifications for the required courses that are less than 12 months old, they can be utilized to fulfill part of the training requirements.
