If you work on a construction site in New York State outside New York City, you do not need NYC Site Safety Training. What you need is OSHA training, and the course depends on your role on the job site.
This is one of the most common points of confusion for New York construction workers, and getting it wrong means taking the wrong course and wasting money.
NYC Site Safety Training was created under New York City Local Law 196. It only applies to construction sites within the five boroughs of New York City, which are Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, and Staten Island.
If you work in Long Island, Westchester, Buffalo, Albany, Rochester, Syracuse, or anywhere else in New York State outside the five boroughs, OSHA training is what applies to you.
Your role on the job site determines which course is right for you.
If you are a laborer, helper, or entry-level construction worker outside the five boroughs, OSHA 10 Hour Construction is the course for your role. It covers fall protection, electrical safety, struck-by hazards, ladder safety, and personal protective equipment under Federal OSHA 29 CFR 1926 standards.
If you are a foreman, supervisor, site superintendent, or safety manager on a construction project outside NYC, OSHA 30 Hour Construction is what your role requires. It covers hazard management, OSHA recordkeeping, safety program development, and everything a supervisor needs to run a safe and compliant job site.
Workers need OSHA 10. Supervisors need OSHA 30. It is that simple.
Both OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 Hour Construction courses are available fully online through OSHA Training School in English and Spanish. New York workers can train from any phone, tablet, or laptop at their own pace without missing work.
