4-Hour Supported Scaffold Training NYC | Scaffold Safety Course

Posted On: April 17, 2025

Know about 4 hour supported scaffold online training course

Supported scaffolds are commonly used on construction sites to help workers reach high areas for tasks such as bricklaying, painting, or maintenance. However, working on a scaffold can be dangerous without proper training.

To ensure safety, the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) requires workers to complete a 4-Hour Supported Scaffold User Training before using a supported scaffold on any job site.

At OSHA Training School, this course is offered through a live Zoom session, making it easy for workers to meet the requirement from home or work. After completing the training, individuals receive a Worker Wallet Card (with the 4-hour training linked to it), which must be carried at all times when working on scaffolds in NYC.

What Is 4-Hour Supported Scaffold User Training?

The 4-Hour Supported Scaffold User Training is required for any worker who works on or uses a supported scaffold at a construction site in New York City. This training helps workers stay safe and follow New York City regulations.

A supported scaffold is a type of platform that is held up by poles, frames, or other supports. These scaffolds are commonly used for working at heights, and if not used properly, they can lead to serious accidents.

During the training, workers learn:

  • The parts of a supported scaffold
  • How to safely get on and off a scaffold
  • How to use personal fall protection
  • Common hazards like falling tools or slips
  • Emergency procedures in case of accidents
  • The worker's responsibilities while on a scaffold
  • Safety rules from OSHA and the NYC Construction Code

This training is designed to protect lives and prevent accidents on job sites.

Who Should Take 4-Hour Supported Scaffold User Training?

This training is for anyone who works on or uses a supported scaffold in New York City, including:

  • Construction workers
  • Painters and plasterers
  • Bricklayers and masons
  • Maintenance workers
  • Anyone working on a scaffold at a job site

Important Information:
  • The 4-hour Supported Scaffold User training is separate from Site Safety Training (SST) requirements and does not count towards SST credits.
  • Workers needing SST credits can complete the online, self-paced Site Safety Training.
  • The 4-Hour Supported Scaffold Certification is valid for 4 years.
  • After expiration, the entire training must be retaken, as there is no renewal option.
