The New York City Department of Buildings (NYC DOB) introduced the Worker Wallet Card on November 1, 2024. This card helps construction workers easily manage and show their safety certifications by keeping everything in one place.
The Worker Wallet Card is a small, easy-to-carry card that combines multiple important certifications into one. Instead of managing several cards, workers can now use this single card for all their credentials.
It covers certifications for:
The Worker Wallet Card is linked to the NYC DOB’s Training Connect system. Employers can quickly verify a worker's certifications on construction sites by scanning the card with the Training Connect App. This fast and accurate process confirms that workers meet the required safety standards.
Construction workers with certifications in the areas listed above must obtain the Worker Wallet Card. The card became available on November 1, 2024, and workers have until July 1, 2025, to get it. After this date, the card will be required for performing work that involves the listed qualifications.
To get the Worker Wallet Card, workers should visit a NYC DOB-approved Course Provider. These providers may charge an administrative fee for issuing the card. A list of approved providers is available on the NYC DOB website.
Here’s how to apply:The Worker Wallet Card does not replace the Site Safety Training (SST) Card. Both cards remain separate and serve different purposes. The SST Card is still required for construction and demolition job sites under Local Law 196. However, both cards will be linked to an individual’s profile in the Training Connect system for easier record management.
If you work in construction, don’t wait until the deadline. Get your Worker Wallet Card now to remain compliant and continue working safely. Visit the NYC DOB website to learn more and find an approved provider.
