NYC DOB Training Connect SST Card: Types & Benefits

Posted On: November 14, 2024

How to get yout NYC DOB Training Connect SST Card

What is the NYC DOB Training Connect SST Card?

The NYC DOB Training Connect Site Safety Training (SST) Card is a wallet-sized card that combines all completed SST courses and is the only card accepted by the NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) as proof of Site Safety Training. This card replaces all previous SST cards, making it easier to meet NYC Local Law 196, which requires specific safety training for construction workers and supervisors. By centralizing training records onto a single DOB-approved card, the Training Connect SST Card eliminates the need to carry multiple certificates. Workers without this card may face enforcement action for not having proof of required safety training.

Benefits of the NYC DOB Training Connect SST Card:

  • Easy Verification: The Connect Card combines all training records, allowing workers and employers to quickly confirm completion of required courses, such as OSHA 30, 4-Hour Supported Scaffold, and additional SST hours.
  • Improved Compliance: The Connect Card makes it easy for workers to fulfill the 40-hour SST requirement (or 62 hours for supervisors), which is important for working on designated job sites.
  • On-Site Convenience: Workers no longer need to carry multiple certificates or worry about losing separate training certificates. The single Connect Card is enough to show proof of all completed safety training.
  • Real-Time Access to Records: The Connect Card has a scannable QR code that allows employers or site inspectors to instantly check up-to-date training records, saving time on compliance verification.

How to Get the NYC DOB Training Connect SST Card?

  • Complete Required Training: Workers must complete all SST training hours specified by Local Law 196, including any prerequisite courses like OSHA 10 and 30 Hour Construction Training.
  • Apply Through an NYC DOB-Approved Provider: Workers can complete the training through NYC DOB-approved provider, such as OSHA Training School (in partnership with Compu21 Institute Corp., Provider Number 2Q17). Once the required courses are completed, OSHA Training School will verify the training and issue the Connect Card.
  • Receive Your Card: After verification, the Connect Card will be processed and mailed to you. This card proves completed training hours and meets NYC DOB requirements.

Types of NYC DOB Training Connect SST Cards

The NYC DOB Training Connect SST Card comes in two main types, based on job roles and required training hours:

1. 40-Hour Worker SST Card: For construction and demolition workers who complete 40 hours of required site safety training. This includes courses such as:

  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction
  • Fall Prevention (8-Hour)
  • Drug and Alcohol Awareness (2-Hour)

This card confirms that the worker is qualified to work on NYC construction and demolition job sites.

2. 62-Hour Supervisor SST Card: For supervisors who complete 62 hours of site safety training. This includes courses, such as:

  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction
  • Site Safety Manager Refresher/Chapter 33 (8-Hour)
  • Fall Prevention (8-Hour)
  • Supported Scaffold User and Refresher (4-Hour)
  • Site Safety Plan (SSP) (2-Hour)
  • Other supervisory SST courses

62-Hour card shows that the supervisor meets the advanced safety requirements for overseeing workers on job sites

Conclusion

The NYC SST Connect Card makes it easy for construction workers and supervisors to show they’ve completed the required safety training. By centralizing training records, it simplifies on-site verification and helps workers stay up-to-date with their certifications, contributing to safer construction sites across New York City.
